Created in 1989 by the Connecticut Legislature, Connecticut Innovations (CI) is a quasi-public organization whose mission is to strengthen the state's economy by accelerating the growth of a vibrant, high-technology community. The organization makes equity investments in early-stage Connecticut technology companies focused in bioscience, information technology, photonics, and energy and environmental systems. Ashish Deshpande is the Chief Executive Officer of frevvo Inc. In this role he oversees the corporate and business development activities of the company. Prior to founding frevvo, Dr. Deshpande was a founder and member of the Senior Management Team at Metaserver Inc., a business process management firm in New Haven, CT. In that capacity, he was instrumental in attracting over $40M in investment from top venture capital firms, selling and successfully deploying the product at companies including Lincoln Financial Group and Phoenix Life Insurance Company, licensing key components of the technology to Pervasive Software Inc., and selling the company to Whitehill Technologies Inc. in Summer 2005. He also played a key role in obtaining a patent for the Metaserver technology. Dr. Deshpande brings significant experience in all areas of managing a software company including Sales, Professional Services, Marketing, Engineering, HR and Finance as a member of the Senior Management Team. Dr. Deshpande received a PhD in Computer Science from Yale University, and a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. Kevin Crowley is a Managing Director of investments at Connecticut Innovations and is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, investing in and managing portfolio companies, primarily in the information technology sector. Kevin joined Connecticut Innovations in 2006. He has led CI’s investments in several companies such as Cara Therapeutics. Additionally, Kevin manages the $46 million Connecticut BioScience Facilities Fund, which invests in the build-out of wet laboratory space. Prior to joining CI, Kevin was director of the Office of BioScience at the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), where he was responsible for bioscience business recruitment, client interaction, bioscience related public policy strategy and day-to-day operations of the office. He also previously served as director of business recruitment in DECD's Business Recruitment and Industry Clusters Division, negotiating relocation incentive packages for both large and small corporate development projects. Kevin holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Quinnipiac University. Michael Michigami has over 35 years of operating and senior management experience in the software, telecommunications, computer networking, electronic control systems and semiconductor industries. Most recently, he heads his own technology-oriented management consulting business, frequently serving as COO or President. Prior to this, Mr. Michigami was CEO at three public companies: CEO and president of Electronic Associates, an outsourced manufacturer of electronic assemblies; Chairman and CEO of Digital Microwave, a global wireless communications infrastructure provider; and CEO of Datapoint Corporation, an international client-server networking company. While at United Technologies, Mr. Michigami served as president of Control Systems and president of Mostek, a semiconductor memory company. He also served in various senior management positions at General Electric Capital, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Texas Instruments and Data General. Mr. Michigami received a B.A. from Trinity College, and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School. He has served on a number of Boards of Directors of corporations, as well as community service organizations. |
